Sunday Travelogue - Antarctica & Chile

When: Sunday, November 22, 2009 - 2:00 PM
Where: Meeting Room A/B

Join Gene Wolfarth as we sail from the tip of Argentina to the Antarctic Peninsula and go ashore on Deception Island, sail the length of the Lemaire Channel, visit the British station of Port Lockroy, go ashore at Paradise Harbor, and conclude the Antarctic portion with a visit with the penguins on Half Moon Island. Sailing north, we pass Cape Horn, sail the length of the Beagle Channel, the Strait of Magellan, visit a glacier, go ashore at the city of Puerto Montt, and end our trip in Chile’s capital, Santiago.

A lunchtime book review program presented by staff and sponsored by the Friends of the Webster Public Library. Bring your lunch and join us on the 4th Tuesday of each month for several brief book reviews by staff members. You’ll get a taste of a variety of books that we’ve enjoyed and a chance to share and discuss some of the titles you are reading. We’ll also provide beverages and a sweet treat. No registration is necessary.

Introduction to Microsoft Word

When: Monday, November 30, 2009 - 6:30 PM
Where: Computer Lab A/B

This introductory class will teach you how to create a document using Microsoft Word. Other topics covered include cutting and pasting, spellchecking, fonts, font size, justification, formatting text, and saving your document. Prerequisites: Ease with using a mouse and familiarity with Microsoft Windows. Registration for the class must be done in person at the Webster Public Library. A $5.00 refundable deposit is required at the time of registration.

Holiday Movie Matinee - Christmas in Connecticut

Take a break from the holiday hustle and bustle and get in the holiday spirit with Christmas in Connecticut starring Barbara Stanwyck and Dennis Morgan. A famous food writer lies about living on a farm, raising her children and being a good cook. In reality she is an unmarried New Yorker who can't boil an egg. When her editor says she will spend Christmas with a heroic sailor, her job is on the line.

Book Discussion Group - Little Heathens

Practice SAT

High school sophomores, juniors, or seniors may choose to take a free practice SAT exam at the library. Sponsored by the Kaplan Educational Center, this session will last approximately 3 hours and 45 minutes. Students should bring a number 2 pencil and a calculator, as well as a snack to eat during the breaks. Space is limited. Registration is required, beginning Friday, September 4. Scores will be available for pickup approximately two weeks after the exam.

This monthly program for homeschoolers will use masterpieces of American art as a springboard to explore the humanities. Each session will include read-alouds, viewing and discussion of particular works, and relevant library resources to check out for further study. MOMS Club of Webster and Ontario

Teen Advisory Board Meeting

The Teen Advisory Board (TAB) meets monthly to assist the Teen Services Department with program planning, to provide ideas for teen materials to purchase for the library's collections, and to plan other projects we think will be fun!
