 If your library has more than one computer connected to an Internet connection, at some point you will end up having to do some kind of network troubleshooting. While effective troubleshooting can solve some less complex problems, in a lot of instances you will need some help. In this workshop you will learn the terminology and concepts that you are likely to need to communicate with someone who can help you solve your problems. To that end we will review the basic components of computer networks and some basic procedures for identifying the sources of networking problems.

Unless your library has technically trained staff on site, your trouble-shooting skills can take you only so far. In this workshop you will also get some guidance from a professional network technician about the kinds of questions that a network technician is likely to ask you when you call them for assistance and how you can be prepared to work with a network technician to understand the things you can do before it is necessary to get professional help.
