Event Type: General Workshop Date: 5/28/2010 Start Time: 9:30 AM End Time: 12:30 PM Description: “My neighbor knocked over my mailbox with his snowplow. What can I do?” “What are my rights under the Americans With Disabilities Act?” “ How do I appeal my property taxes?” “I want to start a bakery business in my home; what regulations must I follow?” Legal reference questions like these can cause even the most doughty reference librarian to run for cover. It need not be so; legal reference work is systematized and learnable, and there is plenty that can be done for the patron without becoming entangled in ethical questions. This workshop will acquaint public librarians with the law, its research tools and methods, and how to remain within the librarian’s proper purview.
