Event Type: Five-Day Core Workshop Date: 9/7/2010 Start Time: 9:30 AM End Time: 3:00 PM Description: Getting “the right material to the right person at the right time” is the greatest joy and challenge of librarianship. A useful, interesting and varied collection is a librarian’s primary tool, and developing it requires skill, knowledge, experience, intuition and creativity.
This workshop is designed for the public librarian with little or no formal training who selects and purchases books and other materials. We will discuss philosophical issues and present practical aspects of this complex responsibility, including policy making, intellectual freedom, and selecting, ordering, weeding, and maintaining a collection. Attention will be given to all formats, including DVDs, audio books, and online materials. Location: Fletcher Memorial Library, Ludlow Registration Ends: 8/23/2010 at 12:00 AM Other Information: DOL certification credits: 25
