Event Type: Technology Workshop Date: 5/28/2009 Start Time: 9:30 AM End Time: 3:00 PM Description: OpenOffice is a is a free (open source) cross-platform office application suite available for a number of different computer operating systems. It is a collection of applications that work together closely to provide the features expected from a modern office suite (aka Microsoft Office).
This workshop will offer and hands-on introduction to the applications in the OpenOffice suite, highlighting the ways in which libraries can manage a transition from other office applications both for their staff and for public access computers. Attendees will be given an overview of the installation, set-up, and update processes for OpenOffice and will be shown a variety of features of the software that can make it easier to use for those familiar with other commercial applications. The morning session (9:30 am - 12 noon) will consist of structured activities and the afternoon session (aprox. 1:00 - 3:00 pm) is an optional opportunity to work with and explore the software.
