Each month a guest poet presents a reading after which the audience is encouraged to share original works at an open mic. This month’s guest reader is performance poet and singer Barbara Ann Branca, whose work is based on her lifelong passions for music and the environment. Ms. Branca has read original poems on several NPR stations and has been featured at numerous cafes and libraries in NYC and on Long Island. She took first place in the Long Island Poetry Collective’s Super Poem Sunday in 2010 at the Walt Whitman Birthplace and recently led a tour of Poets’ Walk on the Hudson River. She is currently a marine science writer at Stony Brook University, where she has also performed with the jazz band and the opera.
