To reflect on this event and consider its relevance for today, RHPL hosts Professor Greg Sumner for a viewing and discussion of the acclaimed film Thirteen Days, which details the challenges President Kennedy faced in confronting Soviet aggression and managing the “hawks” in his own government. Attendees will be encouraged to share their memories of that harrowing time, when the world seemed on the brink of a nuclear conflagration. Dr. Sumner, professor of 20th Century American History at the University of Detroit Mercy, will introduce and facilitate the two-evening film and discussion program.
