History Day@Your Library

Event Type: Workshop
Date: 11/4/2009
Start Time: 8:30 AM
End Time: 3:30 PM
Description:
History Day@your library is seeking proposals for breakout sessions. History Day@your library is a day-long event for teachers, librarians, media specialists, and other educators that highlights the library resources and other assistance from libraries and librarians available to participants creating Minnesota and National History Day projects. History Day@your library is co-sponsored by MELSA, Metronet, the Minnesota Historical Society, and Minnesota History Day. This is the second year for this event.

History Day@your library will be November 4, 2009 from 8:30-3:30 at the Minnesota History Center in St. Paul.

The theme for History Day 2009-2010 is Innovation in History: Impact and Change. As noted in the description of the theme, the most obvious examples may come from science or inventions, but “innovation” is broader than that. Students may wish to explore innovation in music or artistic forms or changes in ways political, cultural, or religious institutions have proposed innovative ways to deal with society’s problems. You can read the description of this year’s theme here: http://www.nationalhistoryday.org/images/uploads/library/397037_ThemePage2010_R5.pdf

Sample topics can be found here: http://www.nationalhistoryday.org/images/uploads/library/sample397039_ThemeBk10_InsidePgs_WEB.pdf

Sessions are 55 minutes each, with concurrent sessions. You are invited to submit a proposal that highlights your library collection, resources, or a research tool that contributes to students and teachers work on History Day projects. Anything that enhances History Day research and success is welcome. Descriptions of successful programs that you have done that enhance History Research and connect students and teachers to libraries are also welcome. Note that any library resources or collections must be accessible to students and teachers. Proposals will be chosen based on the relevance to the theme and student research.

We look forward to hearing your presentation ideas. Please fill out the proposal form attached and return it by September 15 to info@metronet.lib.mn.us
