The Shelburn Line was a World War II escape network operating in occupied France which returned 136 allied servicemen to England. The French Resistance located downed airmen and hid them from the Nazis utilizing a series of safe-houses. Once a month—during dark of the moon—the men were transported to the Brittany coast to meet a Motor Gun Boat which would Tuesday, June 4 D-Day Program: Escape from Behind Enemy Lines… Operation Bonaparte. Join Rick Feingold, as he recounts the story of how his father Lt. Louis Feingold, a B-17 U.S. Army Air Corp navigator, escaped Nazi capture.

We will start the day with a tour of CLERMONT, the impressive home of the socially and politically influential Livingston Family, which overlooks the Hudson River and Catskill Mountains. The home’s most notable resident was Chancellor Robert Livingston who brokered the Louisiana Purchase and was co-inventor with Robert Fulton of the world’s first practical steamboat. We will also tour the three gardens on the premises with the estates chief horticulturalist who will give you gardening tips, as well as reveal tidbits about this extraordinary family. Lunch will be in quaint RHINEBECK, where we will eat at Zagat-rated TERRAPIN, located in a converted old Church. Our last stop will be MONTGOMERY PLACE, the elegant estate home of a branch of the Livingston family for two centuries.
